La Belle Blanc Swan Leotard — My First Ballet Purchase, a Faulty Strap, and Surprisingly Good Aftercare

I bought this myself. Not sponsored.

This one goes back to the very beginning.

Why I started ballet at all

My posture was bad. Genuinely bad — rounded shoulders, the whole thing. I went looking for something that would fix it.

I considered pilates, Korean traditional dance, and ballet. Korean dance was ruled out because the studio was too far.

Ballet just pulled harder.

That’s the entire decision. There wasn’t more to it than that.

The first class

Movements that look simple take an enormous amount of strength, and they were hard.

But they were elegant, and that made me want to be good at them. That specific greed — wanting to do something beautifully — turned out to be the thing that kept me going.

What I wore: tracksuit bottoms. Everyone was in comfortable clothes. One or two people wore leotards.

So I bought one, from La Belle Blanc — partly for motivation, partly because I thought it would make my alignment easier to see.

The problem

The strap was faulty.

And I had already removed the tag, which I assumed meant an exchange was off the table. I’d resigned myself to it.

I contacted customer service anyway.

They offered to repair it in-house, and covered the shipping both ways.

I want to note how unusual that felt. I’d only ever experienced proper aftercare at department stores — with an online shop, a defect meant an exchange or giving up. Being offered a repair was new to me.

The repaired leotard came back in a beautiful package, which I hadn’t expected for a repair. They had even reattached the tag I’d torn off.

The strap adjusts properly now.

The leotard itself

Size S.

The embroidery is beautiful. It would have worked as a dress on its own — that’s not a small compliment for practice wear.

Fit, honestly: the stretch is good, and I don’t think it will tear or lose a strap. But it isn’t especially comfortable.

I also own their Noir leotard in beige, and that one is far more comfortable to dance in. I wear the Noir to almost every class. This one comes out less often.

It would honestly make a good swimsuit.

But it’s beautiful, so I keep insisting on wearing it anyway. This is a recognised condition.

One more thing

Starting ballet, I lost a fair amount of weight. Not the reason I started, but it happened.

If you’re buying your first leotard: comfort matters more than you think it will, and you won’t know which is which until you’ve worn a few. Start with something plain, and buy the beautiful one second.

And if something arrives faulty from a small Korean brand — ask anyway. You might be surprised.
