I bought these myself. Not sponsored.
Ballet completely changed what shoes I like.
I’ve been hunting for daily shoes lately and got fixated on Mary Janes, so I bought a heeled pair and actually wore them.
If you like balletcore, you’ve probably already had the should I get a pair of Mary Janes conversation with yourself. Here’s mine, honestly.
First impression — lighter than expected

Opening the box, the first thought was: these are lighter than I expected.
That matters. Heeled shoes that feel substantial in the hand usually feel worse by hour four.
I wanted to put them on and go outside immediately. Good shoes take you to good places, apparently.
The strap

The strap across the instep is the whole point of a Mary Jane, and it does what it’s supposed to — it holds the top of the foot, which is why these stay on better than a plain flat.
The buckle finish is careful, and that’s what preserves the lovely, slightly demure mood that makes the style balletcore rather than just a shoe with a strap.
About the 5cm heel

This is the question everyone actually has.
5cm is the height where you get the line without the punishment. It lengthens the leg noticeably — which, if you’ve spent three years being told to make everything longer, you will appreciate more than most people.
But it’s low enough that the arch of your foot isn’t being forced into anything extreme.
I’ve walked a full day in these. Not a photo-shoot day. A real one.
What to check before you buy

Foot width. Mary Janes are cut close, and if you have wide feet the strap position matters more than the length. Try them on if you possibly can.
Strap placement. Higher on the instep holds better; lower looks daintier and slips more.
Heel material and sound. If you’ll wear these to an office, listen to them on a hard floor first.
Where they work

- Wedding guest outfits — this is what I originally wanted them for, and they’re right for it
- Daily wear, genuinely
- With a long skirt, which is the balletcore combination that actually works on a street rather than in a mood board
Verdict
Balletcore has produced a lot of shoes that are beautiful and unwearable.
These aren’t. The 5cm height is the sweet spot, and the light weight is what makes them survive an actual day.
If you’ve been circling a pair of Mary Janes, this is your permission.
